Matroska video file is a video file format like AVI and MOV. It supports different subtitle tracks, pictures, and audio. It is a carrier for HD videos as it supports chapter points, cover art, ratings, and descriptions.
If you are using DivX Plus software, then you must have seen the MKV video format chosen as the default video format.
Launching MKV files on your computer may seem like an easy thing to do. All you have to do is to double-click on the audio file and then open it. However, if you got 10 different videos from 10 different locations, then you may find that some of the videos are not opening properly. If you wish to avoid this problem, then the rights codecs for that installed video should be present on your computer.
You can use a VLC media player to play MKV files. If you are a Windows user, then some other players that you can use are The Core media player, MKV File Player, DivX Player, and KMPlayer. You can use some of these files to open an MKV File on Mac such as Elmedia player.
However, this is paid software. You can also use the Roxio software to play MKV files on macOS. If you are a Linux user, then you can play MKV files using Xine and VLC media player.
You can play MKV files on iPods, iPhones, and iPads using VLC for mobile or Plyerextreme media player. To play MKV files on Android devices, use a Simple MP4 media player and other supported video formats.
If you wish to convert a Matroska video file into another video format, then you must use a free video file converter. It is not advisable to convert a video file using a converter like CovertFiless.
Instead, you should use the Freemake video converter to convert files from MKV to MOV, AVI, or MP4 format. This will allow you to burn videos with very little effort.
You can easily edit MKV files. You can add subtitles and remove them. Moreover, you can use the MKVToolNix program for editing on macOS, Linux, and Windows. Supported formats include SSA, VobSub, PGS/SUP, and SRT. You can also remove soft copied subtitles on your MKV file.
Additionally, you can add custom subtitles of your choice. The Chapter Editor part of the software allows you to create Start and End times for custom video chapters. If you wish to change the length of the video, then you can easily do that by using Freemake Video Converter. Using this converter, you can merge various videos or cut out some parts of the video.
So, the above-mentioned is all that you need to know regarding how to open, edit and convert Matroska video files.
